There’s something special about August 10—and it’s not just because it reminds us of 81010, the number that makes it possible to join a Remind class in 30 seconds flat.
It’s an opportunity to recognize how texting helps make meaningful communication possible. It’s a day for celebrating the impact you’ve made in classrooms and schools with simple text messages. And it’s a chance to reflect on why texting is such an important part of Remind.

In the beginning, there was 81010.
When Brett and David first came up with the idea for Remind, way back in 2011, they had two simple requirements: It had to be easy for teachers to use, and it had to actually work. They’d talked to too many educators who printed handouts that never made it home, sent emails that never got responses, or made phone calls that never got picked up.
Families didn’t always have computers or internet access at home. Some of them didn’t have smartphones, either. But almost every student and parent had a cell phone they could use to send and receive text messages. And pretty soon, communicating with their teachers was as simple as texting a class code to 81010.
Since then, Remind’s expanded to email and our mobile apps—but we’ll always make sure you can reach every student, everywhere, across every device.
